Metal Detectors

Metal detectors have been around since World War 1. They were fairly crude but did locate metallic material such as unexploded ordinance such as grenades, ground mines etc. These days the consumer grade detectors are a lot more sophisticated. With features such as ground balancing, iron discrimination and more , these unit have become valuable to the small scale prospector or even those treasure hunters.

There are many detectors on the market. Price and features are the determining factors when purchasing a detector. They range in price from a couple of hundred dollars to more than 5 thousand dollars. You have Garret, Bounty Hunter, Minelab, and more.

I use the Garrett AT Gold myself. It has all the features that I need. I use two of the available search coils that are available, the pro performance submersible and the super sniper. Locating mineralized soil makes it much easier in the field, allowing me to find those sample targets of interest. It does pick up on targets that contain amounts of flour gold which enables me to track a the path of erosional travel to maybe a viable source.
